Summer/Semester Clerk and Externship

Profile

We offer positions to paralegal and law school program candidates and graduates for summer and semester positions. In fact, these programs drive our attorney hiring efforts. Our hiring goal is to provide a diverse group of outstanding students and graduates the opportunity to work with Cole & Van Note’s attorneys and learn first-hand about our practice areas. Our expectations for these students and graduates are high and our standards are rigorous, but the rewards are tremendous. The program enables us to provide and then evaluate the legal skills of these developing paralegals and lawyers in a real-world context, not a “make-work,” environment. Participants work on legal matters similar to those assigned to full-time associate attorneys, traveling to client locations, assisting our attorneys by addressing client needs and gaining familiarity with document analysis, depositions and court proceedings.

In past years, we have made offers of full-time employment to clerks/externs who demonstrated an excellent grasp of our practice areas and the skills to help maintain our firm’s preeminent status. On occasion, clerks/externs who accept our offers are given the opportunity to work as part-time research assistants during the school year, while others become full-time staff immediately. Both opportunities offer exposure to all aspects of the firm.
