Description:
The Counseling Intern receives training in the field of professional mental health counseling, specifically focusing on the mental health of college students. This is an unpaid position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: Experience working in the mental health field.
Education: Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and pursuing a master’s degree in counseling, and enrolled in practicum/internship course.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Leadership Skills: Knowledge on how to lead a counseling session.
Computer Skills: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Physical Exertion requirements: Light work as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics
Schedule Flexibility: Occasional weekend or evening work may be needed.
Driving History: Driving a University vehicle is not a requirement of this position, but submission of driving data is required.
Procedures commitment: The candidate must adhere to any and all King University policies as detailed for all employees in the Employee Handbook or specifically per any department, such as Admissions, Business Office, Financial Aid, etc.;
Responsibilities:
Observe licensed counselor conducting sessions with clients.
Conduct intake sessions with clients to complete a psychosocial history.
Develop treatment plans based on client’s therapeutic needs.
Conduct counseling sessions with clients utilizing various counseling frameworks and techniques.
Complete termination summary for clients finishing counseling.
Participate in psychoeducational programs for students- suicide prevention, stress management, etc.
Develop psychoeducational programs for students to enhance mental well-being.
Compartmentalize all confidential information, not violating any applicable laws, professional standards or privacy of any client, including but not limited to the names of clients, all of which is mandated by the nature of this position.
