SUMMARY:

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.

The individual will work as part of the Discovery Medicine group as part of the effort to identify and research potential clinical indications or technical platforms for early stage development at BioMarin. This group evaluates research and development proposals for clinical feasibility and fit with BioMarin pipeline. This is a small group within Clinical Sciences that has direct interface with Research, Translational Sciences and Business Development.

JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:

To qualify for this position, the applicant should have a science background, interested in post-graduate life sciences or medical school, and a desire to understand how basic science and technology platforms can be utilized in the development of new medical entities. It is envisioned that this individual will work in a small group, with frequent discussions and updates of programs across the portfolio.

Required Skills:

• Ability to work independently with a curious nature and an interest in making important advances in treating diseases in high unmet needs.
• The group will be charged with critical review and testing of assumptions, of which the applicant will be an active member.

Desired Skills:

• Basic investigatory skills, namely literature searches, key research papers, prior clinical development are important.

Qualifications/Eligibility:

• Life sciences major or recent graduate considering or applying for post-graduate degree
• Analytical skills, critical thought, comfortable with basic statistics
• Basic computer skills; capable of investigation with a white board
• Comfortable interacting with several clinical and scientific functions
• Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program.
• Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours a week.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship.
• Must be able to work in a Hybrid work style; 2-3 per week at the San Rafael, CA campus.
• Housing and Transportation is the responsibility of the Intern.
